Breast Revision: Symmastia Breast Deformity
Below is an interesting case that I had the opportunity to repair/reconstruct.
Pre-op (different surgeon) and Post-op Photos
The patient presented with severe symmastia, having had three surgeries by previous surgeons. She also has severe bottoming out of the right breast with lateral displacement of the nipple areolar complex. In order to fix this problem, the patient required multiple procedures in the operating room. First of all, 1) the implants were placed with high profile silicone gel implants; 2) the internal capsule needed to be repaired; and 3) the inframammary fold was tightened externally through an inframammary skin lift procedure. The nipple areolar complex was now centralized more into the middle of the right breast after a lateral open capsulotomy thereby releasing scar tissue along the lateral breast and allowing the implant to have a more lateral fullness as well as reduce some of the medial symmastia that the patient had had previously. The after results show the nipples to be more centrally positioned bilaterally as well as the inframammary folds to be tight and even and more lateral fullness to the right breast, creating an image of a more symmetric appearance. The patient is very happy with the final result.
This is a difficult case that requires a breast revision specialist. Each component and functional problem needs to be addressed accordingly and correctly and this will allow for a save and successful outcome.
