FIVE MAJOR REASONS TO SWITCH YOUR SALINE IMPLANTS FOR SILICONE GEL IMPLANTS IN BEVERLY HILLS

1. Appearance.

Your saline implants may appear to have severe rippling and visibility along the sides of the breasts, and if the implants were placed in the subglandular, retromammary or above the muscle by your surgeon, then there is a good chance that you do not have enough tissue coverage to hide the rippling, which occurs with most all saline implants. Switching to silicone gel implants will greatly reduce the visibility and the rippling of the implants, which will give a more natural contour to the breasts. If the patient has a very thin tissue, very minimal amounts of breast glandular and/or breast tissue, she may continue to have rippling, even with silicone implants; this is significantly less than with saline implants. Textured saline implants ripple the worse in that the textured coating adheres like Velcro to the tissue and causes creases, cracks and severe indentation on the skin in the subfatty areas; typically leading to a very deformed appearance to the breasts. Switching out your saline implants for silicone gel will greatly improve the appearance of your breasts.

2. Palpability.

Feeling the saline implants can be very disturbing to women, especially women who are very thin and have ectomorphic build, meaning minimal breast tissue, very prominent ribs, etc. These women do great with silicone gel implants in that they will feel much softer, much more natural, and much less obvious palpability in fewer of the bags.

3. Thicker Shell Implants Available.

The new FDA-approved silicone gel implants both by Mentor and Allergan are very strong. The shells are very, very thick and they should withhold pressure greater than the older implants such as Dow Corning of the past. As of November 17, 2006, women over the age of 22 without a history of autoimmune disease or cancer are excellent candidates for silicone gel implants. The moratorium has been uplifted by the FDA. Therefore, with the thicker shells of silicone gels, we prefer to use the Mentor high profiles whenever possible. Patients have a longer lifespan of these implants and rupture is much less common; thereby capsular contracture, calcifications, and scar tissue formation is reduced greatly.

4. Natural.

The appearance of the new gel implants is very, very natural. They come in three different styles: moderate, moderate plus, and high profile gels. Depending upon the look that you desire to achieve, the different AP projection implants can be used. For example, if a woman has very thin tissue, a moderate plus may be more useful in the diameter is not quite as wide as a moderate, however, there is a little bit more projection. However, the projection is less than the high profile, which may appear to be a little bit too round if you very thin and very ectomorphic in build. So women now have three choices with the round gel implants: moderate, moderate plus, and high profile. This allows for a better selection in the final appearance of the woman's breast with the silicone gel implants.

5. Safety.

Saline implants, especially textured, have a higher rupture rate than the smooth silicone gel implants. Smooth silicone gel implants do not adhere to the underlying surface of the breast tissue and thereby have a lower rate of rupture, which is useful for elective as well as reconstructive purposes in breast surgery; carrying a reduced incidence of rupture.
